There are a lot of things a newly expecting mama has to keep in mind. Just off the top of my head I can think of a few: Exercising regularly, what kind of tuna can she eat, getting enough calcium and vitamin D, should she eat sprouts or sushi, etc. The list can go on and on and it sometimes is overwhelming how much you really should remember. I remember feeling like I needed a check-list of the pregnancy’s dos and don’ts with me at all times.
One of the most important things that you have to remember when you’re pregnant is making sure you’re getting the right nutrients not just for yourself but for that adorable baby developing inside of you. Did you know that in general 68% of women are calcium deficient? The reason that should be somewhat alarming is because your body was made to support your developing child so if you’re already deficient in calcium, your body will take whatever is needed to grow those bones and teeth of your baby from your own bones.
Essential nutrients that you need when you’re pregnant are: Calcium, Vitamin D Folic Acid, and Iron.
Yes, you can try to consume those essential nutrients through your daily diet, however, if you’re battling morning sickness, nausea or exhaustion, especially early in your pregnancy adding one more thing onto your plate may not be the best idea for you. Along the lines of trying to keep track of the dos and don’ts having to add a list of nutrient-dense food to consume daily can be difficult. If you do want to try here is a little printable cheat sheet for you to print off and carry.
Can I be honest with you though? When I was pregnant and dealing with exhaustion and morning sickness the last thing I wanted to eat was broccoli or tuna. And the beets? Yeah, no way I’m touching those with a ten foot pole! That’s why it’s nice to be able to take a supplement like Viactiv® Chews because it has the daily calcium (which is 1000mg daily in case you were wondering) that’s needed in pregnancy. You don’t even have to think about it; plus, it also feels like you’re eating a sweet treat. When can you say that you’ve had a calcium supplement that actually tastes great!? Most prenatal vitamins only have 20%-30% of the recommended calcium needed during pregnancy. Viactiv®’s soft chews come in milk chocolate and caramel plus they also have Vitamins D and K in them. The way I look at it is its one less thing for me to worry about. (As always, if you are pregnant, speak your healthcare provider before taking any supplements.)
