Everything I know so far about ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY

I am a huge STAR WARS fan; I’ve talked about it here on the blog. My dad introduced me to STAR WARS at the age of five and I was hooked. It’s one of those bonding movies that my dad and I have. When I first heard about ROGUE ONE I honestly was relieved. There’s a little part of me that doesn’t ever want the STAR WARS story to end and as much as I hate anticipation the closer we get to that final movie the sadder I become. (Call me sentimental I know.) I am so looking forward to what ROGUE ONE has to offer audiences and since we’re a little over a month away from the release date here’s what we know so far:
From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves. In theaters December 2016.
Featuring (pictured in order below) Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones, Oscar-nominated actress for The Theory of Everything), Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), K-2SO (Alan Tudyk), Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed), Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn), Chirrut Îmwe (Donnie Yen), with Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) and Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen).
There isn’t a ton of information out there yet but there are a few things that I was able to figure out by spending entirely way too much time researching:
- John Williams will not be composing the music for ROGUE ONE. Michael Giacchino (Up, the Star Trek reboot films and Doctor Strange) will be the composer for the film.
- Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Godzilla) is the director of the film.
- Darth Vader will be in the film.
- ROGUE ONE was filmed in the UK.
- ROGUE ONE is set in STAR WARS time pre-STAR WARS: NEW HOPE. My son is finally beginning to understand this concept. We’ve had many discussions.
- If you’re a fan of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, you will recognize Forest Whitaker’s character Saw Gerrera from the series.
