If you’re a fan of Hallmark movies, need something to watch with the entire family that you know you will not need to preview before, DaySpring’s first original film JOURNEY TO YOU does not disappoint. Set in the scenic backdrops of Spain’s Camino de Santiago’s network of pilgrimages, the film looks at the very driven, type-A nurse, Monica (Erin Cahill), who has given all of her energy and life’s purpose to her job (so much so that she prides herself on never taking a vacation). After being passed up for a promotion, Monica’s new boss, who has a different perspective on the situation and encourages her to take some time away as it will help invigorate her. Reluctantly giving in, Monica, takes things a step further when she impulsively goes on a pilgrimage to Camino de Santiago, a church in Spain where the Apostle James is buried. This pilgrimage means a lot to Monica’s mom because she went on the same pilgrimage with Monica’s dad when they were young. As Monica is getting ready to leave she’s handed her late father’s devotional journal that has many prompts to help Monica get the most out of her trip.

The way the pilgrimage works is that Monica meets up with other pilgrims, the same way her parents made the pilgrimage years ago. Once she arrives in Spain and meets up with her group she finds herself traveling with a divorced father, Luis (Eric Valdez), who is making the pilgrimage with his teenage son and dad. Now, this is Hallmark so I will not being giving away anything when I say sparks fly in a way Monica didn’t anticipate.

The film is a look at how frantic life can be and Monica finds herself reconnecting not only with who she is but what life can offer if she would just slow down.

A Journey of Self-Discovery and Spiritual Growth

Journey to You sets itself apart from classic Hallmark love stories by focusing on deeper themes like spiritual renewal, emotional healing, and self-discovery. You’ll find a few scenes where Monica and Luis pray out loud, sometimes in cheesy settings like a hilltop overlooking a valley, again, it’s Hallmark. If you can’t appreciate the corny you should probably watch something else.

Embracing Spanish Culture

If you don’t immediately look up Camino de Santiago to see if it’s a real travel destination, I’m going to assume you already knew it was there. The cinematography of JOURNEY TO YOU is absolutely breathtaking and I’ve decided it’s one of my bucket list destinations. There are a lot of Spanish cultural elements that add to the charm of the film.

Final Thoughts

This is a film that is perfect for multitasking to, if you’re doing work or something else it’s a great movie to have on in the background (maybe watch it first though so you don’t miss out on anything). It’s heartfelt and refreshingly family-friendly. I mean that, there’s absolutely nothing offensive in this film that would have you covering your kids’ ears or, as my late mother-in-law used to do, covering the TV with your skirt. It’s pure, faith based, and set in an absolutely beautiful country.

Where can I watch JOURNEY TO YOU?

You can catch the movie on the Hallmark Channel when it premieres on April 19, 2025, 8 p.m. ET/PT. You can also stream the movie on April 20 on Hallmark+.
