From Marvel Studios,

“Avengers: Infinity War” picks up as the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, but a dangerous menace has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, Thanos will stop at nothing to collect all six Infinity Stones in his quest to wield unimaginable power and his twisted will on all of humanity. Assembling a team that includes members from every Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, the Avengers and their Super Hero allies must sacrifice like never before in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe. An unprecedented cinematic journey 10 years in the making with the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe in play, “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time.

Make sure that you’ve watched, or at least have read a ton of information on the following films: CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, THOR: RAGNAROK, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, and BLACK PANTHER. If you have time to watch DOCTOR STRANGE I’d also recommend seeing the film because his character won’t make any sense to you. You can read up on him by doing a quick Google search Without some knowledge of these films you’re going to be a little lost. The movie does a good job of reminding you what’s been going on but it won’t make any sense if you have no clue who The Avengers are and what they do. Check out this post though about what Marvel movies you should watch before seeing AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR.

Or who is still standing in the end? That’s all I’m saying but I’ll also add that I was really surprised. That’s why I don’t want to tell you anything more.

The full length of the film, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, is 2 hours and 40 minutes. Also, it’s a Marvel film, don’t leave during the credits…ever.

Is there going to be a part 2 of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR?

According to an interview with Vanity Fair, Kevin Feige, the head honcho aka President of Marvel Studios, who really has the Marvel Cinematic Universe vision, said, “After Avengers 4, an ambitious multi-franchise crossover movie slated for release in 2019, at least some of the original characters who sit at the center of the billion-dollar Avengers team will be hanging up their capes and shields.” Keep in mind too that Disney/Marvel does not have the only superhero game going on in town, the popularity of Sony’s WONDER WOMAN, proved that there’s competition in Hollywood for this genre of movie.

Can my child see AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR?

I’m going to say what I always say, it’s up to you, the parent. If your children see a lot of superhero films then they may be okay to see AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. I don’t think that the violence of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR is more disturbing than BLACK PANTHER which had a lot of hand-to-hand combat. There were explosions, emotional scenes, minimal curse words, and aliens/monsters but other than that I think that the average superhero child movie goer will be fine. Will I be taking my kids to see AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR? Probably not. My son has an incredibly active imagination and he’s extremely empathetic so seeing some of the more emotional scenes may be too much for him. If my middle daughter was a little older I would take her because she is a little more grounded in reality and is able to differentiate between real vs. present.

What powers does Thanos have in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR?

Look at the guy…he’s huge! Thanos is a titan who’s pretty unstoppable. From Marvel,

Thanos possesses the superhuman physiology of all Eternals, granting him superhuman strength, endurance, reflexes, and agility. His skin in nearly invulnerable, particularly against heat, cold, electricity, radiation, toxins, aging, and disease, and he can survive indefinitely without food or water even before his “curse” from Death left him immortal, unable to die. His mind is also invulnerable to most forms of psychic attack, and can project a psionic blast of energy as well as blasts of plasma/cosmic energy from his eyes and hands.

What are the Infinity Stones?

There are six Infinity Stones and each one has a certain characteristic. All of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films have been somewhat related to the bad guys wanting to get an Infinity Stone for themselves because on their own they possess mad, crazy power but together….ah, together they can control and destroy everything. It’s been Thanos’ mission to collect all six stones so he can control the universe forever! (insert evil laugh here). Watch this clip from GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY where the Collector explains the origins of the Infinity Stones.

And just in case you can’t remember each Infinity Stone and all of their specific jobs, I’ve made this handy graphic, you know, because I tend to go down rabbit holes when it comes to mythology and comics and superheroes and look! A fancy gold glove!!

Everything you wanted to know about the Infinity Stones. What are the Infinity Stones in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR?

What’s up with the gold glove Thanos is wearing in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR?

It’s a very pretty gold glove and is multi-purpose and holds not one, not two but all six Infinity Stones so that when Thanos does actually collect all of them he will be able to harness all of their power and rule the universe! No really, that’s what he wants to do. At the end of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, during the end credits scene, we see Thanos put the glove on and he says, “Fine, I’ll do it myself.” You’ll find out later who made the glove for Thanos and why.

Overall thoughts on AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

It was spectacular, unexpected, fun and brought together the Marvel Universe unlike any film has. It was so fun to see characters that are our favorites, like for me the Guardians of the Galaxy, meeting another favorite Avenger of mine, Thor. Watching them interact with each other, come together to solve a problem, was worth the ticket price alone. The story is compelling and made me realize just how much these characters mean to me. Of course, there’s girl power, especially in the end battle scene. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you see it. I went into the film thinking I knew what was going to happen based on the comics but I’ll just say that I was pleasantly surprised. Go and see it this weekend before all of the spoilers start creeping out!
